Pretty Woman

"I want the fairy tale."

This movie, HER HAIR, that dress! And Richard Gere of course.

Pretty Woman has to be one of my favorite movies of all time (it's in the same category as Dirty Dancing). Of course, every woman loves her a fairy tale story of a damsell in distress that gets saved by a magical prince (let's forget the prostitute part). And in this case, gets a creditcard for unlimited shopping on Rodeo Drive! *Swoon...

So happy to have found my own Richard Gere, my knight in shining armour. All that was missing, was the dress... ;)

This post concludes my June Movie Month, I hoped you liked it, I sure had fun doing it.
Enjoy the rest of your day, xoxo

Zoolander

"I'm sorry that good-looking people like us made you throw up and feel bad about yourself."

This movie is hilarious! I love how they play with the image of the fashion industry. I'm a Ben Stiller fan, I like his sense of humour in his movies. If you've never seen this movie, shame on you. Go watch it. Now. lol

The worlds greatest topmodel ever, Derek Zoolander, inspired me with his silver suit, I had to try it for myself. Of course I'm no match for him so I'm not trying to compete here. I still need to work on my poses and facial expressions and since I haven't perfected my "Magnum" look yet I'll keep it a secret for now :)

The Great Gatsby

"I hope she'll be a fool - that's the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool."

When announcing my movie month in Gatsby style, I received some questions about also featuring a "roaring twenties" look. Well, today I'm giving you what you asked for! Of course I could not finish my movie inspired month without including this movie. I was looking for a style of dress that would do the twenties look justice and found this beauty at Asos. It's from their SALON for Curve line and it's absolutely gorgeous!

When trying to achieve a twenties look, the hairstyle/headdress is very important. I opted for finger waves and added a headband to complete the look. Pearls and long necklaces are always a go and sparkly accessoires and feathers are also great to achieve this look. To be really honest, I'm actually proud of how this turned out. When taking pictures, people looked at me as if I just stepped out of a time machine, lol :)
Would love to hear what you think!

xoxo
P.S: I still have two looks to go, so stay tuned!

Personal note: Today I'm celebrating the birthday of the most important man in my life, my love, my everything. Thank you for your continued support, for always taking my pictures, even when you don't feel like it. For always standing by me. For being the sweetest husband. Happy Birthday babe.

Superman

"This looks like a job for Superman."

When looking for movies to draw fashion inspiration from, I don't limit myself to the so called "fashionable movies". Inspiration is everywhere; on the streets, at your job, in your house and this one... From the sky! Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's SUPER - Size My Fashion!!!

This gorgeous cobalt dress, matched with a subtle hint of red and yellow really made a fashionable alternative for the Superman look. Added his always - no matter how hard the battle in fighting crime and villains got - perfect curl to finish the look :) And, let's be honest, I had the wind on my side! It gave me the so much needed, "my cape is blowing in the wind, umph"! What do you think?

Memoirs of a Geisha

"She paints her face to hide her face. Her eyes are deep water. It is not for Geisha to want. It is not for geisha to feel. Geisha is an artist of the floating world. She dances, she sings. She entertains you, whatever you want. The rest is shadows, the rest is secret."

This movie just captures my heart. I love the scenery, the costumes, the cherry blossoms and above all, the elegancy portrayed by these beautiful women. Sayuri is such a delicate beauty. I've also read the book and both are lovely.

Kimono's are a great trend for this current season and this one is just perfect. It's pretty oversized and it has lot's of arm space so even if this is not your size it's definitely worth a try. Remember, never limit yourself by the number on the label ;)

Enjoy your weekend! xoxo

101 Dalmatians

"My only true love, darling. I live for furs. I worship furs! After all, is there a woman in all this wretched world who doesn't?"

I have two things in common with Cruella: one is my undying love for black and white and the other one is a love for furs (in my case faux fur of course!). So when drawing inspiration from her, the only things you really need are (faux) fur, black and white and red lipstick. Golden combination!

Personal note: If you follow me on Facebook, you might have learned that I suffered a back injury, which made it impossible for me to post for a while. As I'm still recovering, I hope to be back to my normal self real soon :)

Dirty Dancing

"I carried a watermelon"

This movie pretty much captures my entire childhood. I mean, if you haven't watched this movie at least 3 times you didn't have a real childhood *cough*. Right?! Miss Frances Houseman and Johnny Castle. Oh, how many times I wished I was at Kellerman's with them. The movie came out in 1987, so yeah, I was only a one year old toddler then, but boy, did I make up for lost times! I don't even know how many times I've watched this and to this day, it gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling. Whenever the song "I had the time of my life" is on the radio in some kind of 80's special I feel the corners of my mouth curling up in the biggest smile and I can't help singing loudly and overly dramatic with the tunes of the song. I mean come on, "Nobody puts ME in the corner!"

And Patrick Swayze, oh how I still miss you :(

The Help

"I said *coats*, not *commodes*!"

This post is not only movie inspired, it's also my birthday outfit. Yesterday I was blessed to add another year to my age, 25, AGAIN! :) I enjoyed it to the fullest, my day was filled with suprises, which included a mother-daughter breakfast and a spa pedicure. After I returned home I was suprised with the best present ever: a complete photo studio right at my house! I love my family so much, they mean everything to me! So once again, I would like to thank my husband, mini me, my parents and aunts and unckles for this helluva gift! (I will share some pics of my birthday in a seperate post.)

Although I don't show it often on the blog, I'm very into the retro/pin up style. I bought this beautiful floral dress and when I saw The Help I just had to recreate this look. But ehmmm, my dress is prettier, of course!

Side note: For those of you who are curious (I am a UK18/20 and US 16), I got the dress in the largest size, which is 22.

Beverly Hills Cop

"This is the cleanest and nicest police car I've ever been in my life. This thing is nicer than my apartment."

Channeling my inner Axel Foley right now. Everyone knows this movie right? My personal favorite is Beverly Hills Cop III. And the tune to this movie, epic! Did you know the soundtrack even won a Grammy? It used to be my ringtone, back in the time you still had to type in the notes yourself, lol.

To create this look, the jacket was the only real essential thing. I stole kindly borrowed it from my husband and after that all I needed was some jeans and a plain shirt. To keep the feminine touch I decided to wear heels instead of sneakers. Et voilà!

Out of Africa

“You know you are truly alive when you’re living among lions.”

This movie is a classic of course. Being even older than I am (1985) the costumes worn in the movie still inspire. It's part of the safari style, one of the trends for Spring.

This wonderful sleeveless trench gave me a safari feel and pairing it with this snake skin printed skirt just felt right. I kept the color pallette monochromatic and light to catch the safari spirit. Unfortunately I couldn't find a fabulous hat to complete the look but oh well, this will have to do.

Oh and Meryl? How I love that woman. But then again, I think everyone does :) What a fine actress she is.

This month on SMF...

Get ready for the box office!

I really like doing themes on my blog from time to time. I started out with a peplum month in September last year and did a black and white month last March.

As I'm an avid lover of movies and draw a lot of inspiration from them, I thought: why not a movie themed month?! I love to go to the movies and between me and you, I even have a subscription to the cinema which grants me unlimited access to all movies for a small fee each month don't judge me!
Unfortunately, being a mom, wife, having a full time job AND blogging prevents me from going as much as I would love to, so this is a great way to make up for it!

This month I will feature looks that are inspired by movies in several ways; either via the title and theme of the movie, or by the costumes worn. Some looks will be more of 'look a likes' and some will have more of a subtle reference. I am so excited! I will try to feature at least 10 looks but more is always better right?! So stay tuned!

Speaking of which, we're off to a great start already! Recognise the style of this movie poster? I'll give you 5 seconds to guess..... Of course, The Great Gatsby! And might I add, *insert proud happy face here* that I made this poster myself? From scratch! It looks even better in the original size in Photoshop. It took me some time but I'm so happy with the end result, so yay, 2 snaps for me! :)
